Los autogiros, dado el número de horas de vuelo que llevan y las duras condiciones que han soportado por el inhóspito norte, pensamos que requieren un chequeo por parte de un mecánico especialista en Rotax (la marca de los motores). Nuestras pesquisas en busca del especialista, nos han llevado hasta el aeródromo de Serpentine, al sur de Perth, donde se concentra la mayor parte de la actividad de vuelo en ultraligero de la zona. Así que esta mañana a primera hora estábamos allí para recabar información.

The two autogyros, for the number of flight hours they take and the conditions they have endured through the inhospitable north, we think they require a check by a specialist mechanic. Our inquiries have taken us to the Serpentine airfield, south of Perth, where most of the ultralight flight activity in the area is concentrated. So this morning we were there early to get information.

Aeródromo de Serpentine

Contactamos con Rob Felton, un piloto especialista en restaurar aviones antiguos. Le explicamos lo que pretendíamos, y como si fuese asunto suyo, se puso de inmediato a facilitarnos las cosas. Después de un buen rato al teléfono, hablando con distintas personas, nos tuvo resuelto el problema: tendríamos que trasladar los autogiros al aeródromo de Bindoon donde nos estaría esperando el mecánico especialista en Rotax. Nos invitó a café y nos mostró la colección de aviones que ha restaurado.
Estamos muy impresionados por la amabilidad y generosidad de toda la gente con que hemos topado. Hacen verdaderos esfuerzos por ayudarnos.

We contacted Rob Felton, a pilot specializing in restoring old aircraft. We explained what we wanted, and as if it were his business, he immediately set out to make things easier for us. After a long time on the phone, talking to different people, we had the problem solved: we would have to move the autogyros to the Bindoon airfield where the Rotax mechanic would be waiting for us. He invited us to coffee and showed us the collection of airplanes he has restored.
We are very impressed by the kindness and generosity of all the people we have met. They make real efforts to help us

 Partimos en la furgo para Cervantes donde llegamos a eso de la 1pm. Hicimos tiempo hasta las 3pm para volar hasta Bindoon, pues la ruta atravesaba una zona militar restringida que quedaba inactiva a partir de esa hora.

We left in the van to Cervantes where we arrived at about 1pm. We made time until 3pm to fly to Bindoon, because the route crossed a restricted military zone that remained inactive after that time.

A las 3,30pm despegaron los autogiros de Cervantes para en una hora y media cubrir 140km hasta el aeródromo de Bindoon.

At 3.30pm we took off from Cervantes and in an hour and a half we flew 140km to the Bindoon airfield.

Cervantes, recibe su nombre de un barco que naufragó allí en 1844. Curiosamente sus calles tienen nombres de ciudades y regiones españolas: Cádiz, Talavera, Iberia, Aragón,...

 El paisaje de esta zona está dominado por suaves colinas de pasto y cultivo de cereal. Multitud de granjas de ovejas, vacas y caballos

Aeródromo de Bindoon

 En Bindoon estaba esperando el mecánico. Después de los saludos y presentaciones hizo un breve examen de los aparatos y quedamos para mañana a partir de las 9am.
Un piloto de autogiro nos ha hecho hueco en su hangar para guardar los nuestros.
Hay anunciado mal tiempo para mañana.

In Bindoon the mechanic was waiting. After the greetings he made a brief examination of the devices and tomorrow from 9am he will begin to repair them.
