El bosquecillo donde pernoctaron los autogiros (The grove where the gyros spent the night)

Ayer dejamos los aparatos en un bosquecillo, situado en una de las cabeceras de la pista, al abrigo de miradas curiosas. Pensamos también, que con las fundas puestas, las vacas impresionadas por el aspecto se mantendrían alejadas. Esta mañana cuando fuimos a por los autogiros el terreno a su alrededor estaba todo sembrado de frescas bostas (una funda de autogiro no mantiene alejadas a las vacas).
El repostaje fue muy tedioso porque la puerta de acceso al campo estaba con candado y tuvimos que llevar los bidones andando unos 400m desde la carretera hasta los aparatos.

Yesterday we left the devices in a grove, located in one of the headwaters of the runway, sheltered by curious looks. We also thought that with the covers on, cows impressed by the appearance would stay away. This morning when we went for the autogyros the land around them was all sown with fresh cow droppings (an autogyro cover does not keep cows away).
The refueling was very tedious because the access door to the field was locked and we had to carry the drums walking about 400m from the road to the devices.

Cuando estuvimos listos, tuvimos que carretear por la pista para apartar el ganado y poder despegar. En el despegue fue inevitable atropellar alguna tarta.
Toda la jornada hemos volado casi en su totalidad por el interior.

When we were ready, we had to taxi along the track to remove the cattle to take off. On takeoff it was inevitable to run over some cake.
The whole day we have flown almost entirely away from the coast.

Aeródromo de Palmyra (Palmyra airfield)

La primera etapa (284km) nos llevó hasta el campo de Palmyra donde hicimos el autorrepostaje.
En la segunda parte (305km) viento de cola de unos 10 nudos nos acortó el viaje.

The first stage (284km) took us to the Palmyra airfield where we did the self-refueling.
In the second part (305km) tail wind of about 10 knots shortened the trip.

El paisaje que hoy disfrutamos fueron, marismas de desoladora belleza, extensas dehesas salpicadas de charcas y repletas de vacas, grandes extensiones de tierra cultivada, montañas y enormes planicies cubiertas de eucaliptus que parece que no se acaban nunca... (Todo parece excesivo en este país).

The landscape we enjoy today were, marshes of bleak beauty, extensive meadows dotted with ponds and cows, large areas of cultivated land, mountains and huge plains covered with eucalyptus that seem to never end ... (Everything seems excessive in this country).

Aeródromo de Donnington Park (Donnington Park airfield)

A eso de las 4pm nos posamos en Donnington Airpark, un campo a unos 40km de Townsville.
Aquí ya hace más calor, está todo bastante seco y los bosques de eucaliptus no tienen la frondosidad del sur.
Mañana descansaremos todo el día, haremos planificación de las próximas jornadas y tareas de mantenimiento de los autogiros.

At about 4pm we landed at Donnington Airpark, a field about 40km from Townsville.
It's warmer here, it's all pretty dry and the eucalyptus forests don't have the southern leafiness.
Tomorrow we will rest all day, we will plan the next days and do maintenance work on the gyros.
